GIS 121 - Georeferencing and Mapping is a GIS class taught at AB-Tech by Pete Kennedy. Pete did a great job of going over the syllabus and giving a general overview/intro of GIS 121 on the first day. Ample time was spent answering any questions and going over the syllabus. He also allowed everyone in the room to introduce themselves, which is great because it gave us the chance to know each others backgrounds and interest in GIS. Pete introduced all of the material that we will be going over this semester and it seems like this will be an enjoyable class to take. After giving a brief lecture on ESRI and the basics of GIS, we jumped right into the course assignment of the day in which I created a map of landslide risk areas within an area around the Blue Ridge Motel Landslide Area using downloadable GIS data from the Buncombe County website. The exercise was interesting and engaging and prepared me for what is to come in this class. I enjoyed the first day very much and look forward to the rest of the class.
